The Most Priceless Gift Of All

Image
A Surprise That Overflowed With Love By "maama Sue" This week’s Virtual Family Gathering (aka Cell Group) on Wednesday, August 13 became a moment I’ll carry for a lifetime.  I thought today we would be our usual weekly Virtual Family Gathering (i.e. Cell Group).  Every Wednesday Jodianne, Steffi, Ben and myself meet with James, Team and the children for a time of encouragement, song, prayer, scripture and teaching.  Today, however, the children prepared a tremendous surprise - one that left me humbled, tearful, and deeply grateful. One by one, they stepped forward holding handmade birthday cards. Each child had written their own words of appreciation and then read them aloud to me. Their voices were steady yet full of emotion.  (And, how wonderful to see their English improving so much!!) Some said words I will never forget: “I don’t have anything to give you, but I want to tell you how much I appreciate...

Update August 12, 2025

Momo Moments Update August 12, 2025 Written by James (translation and grammar edits by AI) In our darkness, God shone His light!!  Here's our story of God's faithfulness this past 8 weeks: When Sickness Struck ... Viola , the children's spiritual and educational teacher on the Team, fell ill with typhoid and prolonged malaria. We rushed her to the hospital, and the doctor's words were overwhelming. The bills were piling up, and we didn't know how we'd pay them. Christine and the girls' caretaker Olivia also got malaria.     We felt like we were drowning in worries. We were exhausted, emotionally and financially drained. It was a hard moment, and we felt lost and alone. But then, Maama Sue stepped in, reminding us that "Jesus Cares." She prayed with us, and we felt God's peace wash over us. She encouraged us to trust, to read the Bible and pray, and we did. We asked God to show us the way forward, to provide for our needs, and to heal Viola and ...

Viola attends Women Of Excellence

My Testimony from the Women of Excellence "Girls Talk" Conference by Viola (Momo Team Teacher) Meets Pastors Peggy Nunley and Char Pittman MY STORY ...  Hi!  My name is Viola, and I'm 28 years old. Growing up in a very poor background with four siblings, two boys and three girls, our single mother worked tirelessly to provide for us as farmers. But when I was just 5 years old, my life took a dramatic turn. I was fortunate enough to be taken in by Children of Uganda, an organization that helped poor children like me. They schooled me, fed me, clothed me, and showered me with love. I was known for my energetic performances as a dancer and singer, and everyone expressed such adoring love toward me. After completing my education, I faced new challenges as a young mother. I gave birth to my firstborn at a tender age and became a single ...

Meet Dr Steven

Image
Meet Dr Steven - A Vital Supporter of the Momo Team We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Steven.   31 years old, married with one child, Dr Stevens is a practicing MD for the past 9 years and is currently pursuing a Masters to specialize in pediatric care.   Dr Steven and James met when James' father was sick and admitted to the hospital he worked at.  Since then, he has maintained a relationship with James as a brother.   When James started to take care of the children Steven saw it as something great and a sign of love and responsibility.  Dr Steven loves to help those in need, and sees the work with the Momo children as a blessing to watch them grow with happiness as they're being equipped to make and do something for themselves. With his deep commitment to service, he’s already helping us work toward meeting the most urgent health needs of the children. He’s: Training James in basic "at home" medical care Helping James and Team recognize wh...

A Lesson For Us All

Image
The Power of Praise and Worship Every day, the Momo family gathers together for praise and worship, lifting their voices to sing songs of thanksgiving and worship. On Wednesdays we, the "Mentor Team" get to witness their praise fill the atmosphere, and it’s hard not to feel moved by the energy and sincerity with which they thank God for what they have—often little in material terms but rich in spirit.  The Power of Praise in the Face of Adversity The daily practice of thanksgiving, praise and worship isn't just a routine; their joy is a testimony to the power of faith. For many of us, it's easy to lose sight of gratitude when life feels difficult, but these precious children are being taught by James, Viola and the Momo Team of caregivers to have different perspective. They are learning (a lot quicker then many of us Westerners) that no matter the circumstances, there is always something to be thankful for, and that gratitude itself is a form of strength. These chil...

Virtual Gathering July 16

Image
Virtual Family Gathering "They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer...” “...And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” Acts 2:42 On Wednesdays at 10am CT we have a "virtual" family gathering (aka church). We're learning to put into practice how the early church did life together as they gathered together ... Teaching : Anchored in the apostles’ instruction, rooted in Christ’s resurrection and the Scriptures Fellowship (koinōnia) : Deep relational connection, not just social interaction Breaking of Bread : Likely both communion and shared meals Prayer : Corporate and personal, Spirit-led intercession Generosity : Selling possessions to meet needs (Acts 2:45) Unity : “All the believers were together and had everything in common” (Acts 2:44) Joy and Worship : “Glad and sincere hearts, praising God” (Acts 2:46–47) Praying for Uncle James Worshiping Jesus Receiving their Bibles!  ...

Answering the Call - Aunt Jodianne

Finding Family.   A Life Changing Experience by "Aunt Jodianne"  After looking over the vetting report from Africa Missions and seeing this is real, the Holy Spirit placed a heaviness on my heart all evening long. I remember I kept looking at the children ...  the outside latrine the dirt floor in which they had to eat the scarce bit of food that they had  They also had to sleep on that dirt floor as they have no "real" beds. I remember noticing that many had no shoes on their tiny feet.  Well, needless to say The Holy Spirit did not let me rest that evening.  The next day I remember messaging Sue, the leader of our Mentoring Team who has been working tirelessly for these precious children & the whole caregiver team. Sue has been discipling James since October of 2024.  I expressed to her that The Holy Spirit placed this family heavily upon my heart. A few days later I received a message from Sue asking me if I would like to join her and...

After completing my education, I faced new challenges as a young mother. I gave birth to my firstborn at a tender age and became a single mother. Despite the difficulties, my family's support meant the world to me. I left my daughter with my mother and ventured to Kampala, Uganda's capital city, to build a better life for both of us. Five years later, I met a kind-hearted man who was a born-again Christian. He wanted a partner who sha...

Meet the Momo Team - James

Image
JAMES' STORY ...  In 2018, I was 16 years old and still in secondary school. My father, 80 years old at the time, was my family and others' biggest supporter, paying our school fees and providing for our needs. In August 2018, my dad got sick with prostate cancer and was hospitalized. The doctor's diagnosis changed everything, and our lives were never the same. I dropped out of school to care for my dad and our family, which included over 15 biological and non-biological dependents. I felt hopeless about our future, but I prayed to Jesus, asking Him to heal my dad immediately. Although Jesus didn't answer my prayer as I had hoped, I continued to trust in Him. I took care of our garden, cooked, and sold cassava to make ends meet. In 2019, my dad returned home, but his condition worsened. I was heartbroken, feeling like I had lost my future without education. I had no one to share my struggles with, so I held back tears in front of my dad. In 2020, COVID-19 struck, and ou...

Our Story

OUR STORY ... FROM THE BEGINNING  This video is “our story”—a window into the everyday life of this FAMILY of orphaned children and their caregivers we lovingly refer to as "Momo Children's Home".  Prayerfully, it captures what restoration looks like when love shows up consistently, and offers a glimpse into what the children and their caregivers face daily - real needs, real hopes.    May it stir our hearts to respond, and to remember that opening our hands is sometimes how we most clearly show that Jesus cares.
